A Modern Manhattan Wedding at Tribeca Rooftop: Simple, Sophisticated Elegance
Michael and David’s stunning wedding at Tribeca Rooftop in New York City combined the sleek, modern feel of Manhattan with their personal style. Their vision of a black-and-white palette with vibrant pops of color reflected their unique blend of sophistication and fun. From the save the dates to the final dance of the night, every detail told a story of elegance, modernity, and the joy of bringing their loved ones together for an unforgettable day.
As part of their wedding story, we asked Michael and David to share their personal experiences and insights about their big day, from the emotions they felt that morning to the details that made their celebration uniquely theirs. Below, they reflect on their favorite moments, design choices, and offer valuable advice for couples planning their own weddings.
How did you feel on the morning of your wedding?
On the morning of our wedding, we felt a mix of excitement, relief, and a bit of anxiety. There was a sense of joy knowing we were about to marry each other, and at the same time, a peacefulness that everything was finally coming together after all the planning. Of course we were a bit anxious and nervous to have all eyes on us too.
How did your venue, Tribeca Rooftop, influence your design decisions?
Tribeca Rooftop is very modern and innately beautiful by itself. We did not feel it was necessary to do too much with our design decisions and really only complement what Tribeca Rooftop had to offer. We found a picture of the NYC skyline early in the planning process and used that design and color scheme for all of our planning, which I think was very helpful from the onset.
What drew you to the sophisticated, modern style and your 'less is more' approach for your stationery?
Well, we felt that sort of design aligned to a Manhattan wedding. We are both simple people too, so we knew we didn't want to do too much. We wanted it to be simple, yet elegant. Unrelated to the stationery, but there was a point in the process when we were going to get navy blue linens, gold china, chargers, etc. and then we came to the realization that we didn't need any of that stuff, and actually it didn't align with our theme of being modern (modern equates to simplicity). We were lucky that Tribeca Rooftop was modern in-and-of-itself, so we really had some help!
How did your black-and-white palette with pops of blue, orange, and golden yellow reflect the mood or theme of your wedding day?
We wanted to stick with the elegant, modern, masculine theme for a Manhattan wedding, but it was the end of summer. We equate the end of summer as the sun is setting...deep orange, golden yellow, and crisp/dark blue (sky). We even had the sky during cocktail hour with our color palette - it worked out perfectly. Again, we found an image in our early stages of planning that had these colors and we knew it was a perfect match. We knew we needed a pop of color to complement the modern black and white.
Were there any specific design elements—save the dates, invitations, programs, menus, signage, escort cards, etc.—that felt especially meaningful or impactful for you?
For us, the save the dates were probably the most meaningful because when we sent those out, we knew this was real. We also loved the save the date design and really used that as the basis for the rest of designs to come.
How did the stationery enhance the overall experience for your guests?
We felt our stationery helped to connect everything and set the stage for what the design of the wedding was going to be. That's ultimately what we used the stationery for, honestly. The blue, yellow, and orange from our save the date was used in our flowers and lights for the wedding, as example. We also think our stationery provided insights into what type of wedding it was going to be... it was going to be sophisticated and elegant (black/white) but fun (the colors)!
What was the most important factor for you when choosing your wedding stationery?
That we loved what was being designed! If we didn't love it, we let Amy know and instructed her on what edits were necessary to make us love it. I think your wedding is the one time in your life that you can truly be selfish because you only get this one day (well, most people do).
How did you feel about the process of designing your invitations and other stationery pieces?
The process was seamless and easy. We told Amy what we wanted and she ran with it. There wasn't anything that we needed to have Amy start from scratch. Usually any of the edits or revisions we asked for were minor and that's partially due to what Amy would provide us from the onset. I think she is really good about the timing and schedule for our assignments and her assignments.
Was there anything about working with Stone Hill Paperie that stood out to you?
We really liked Amy's calmness and ease to work with. She was just relaxing to work with, which is sometimes rare for wedding vendors. Also, the quality of work was very high and it showed that Amy actually cared about every single piece of stationery she sent us. If they didn't meet her standard, she reprinted them (and I'm sure ate some costs) to ensure we were happy.
Looking back, is there any advice you’d offer to other couples when it comes to selecting and designing wedding stationery?
If you are able to afford it, use a boutique, small business to design ALL your stationery, like Stone Hill Paperie. First, because you're supporting small businesses, but also because the quality of work will be high and it will be less stressful for you at a time when you're trying to minimize stress. There was a point when we were evaluating whether we wanted to use Amy for our day of stationery or just use a large stationery company. But we realized that we didn't want to worry about anything and knew we could trust Amy to do everything with quality and minimal work from us. We wanted it done right, because again, you only get married once (hopefully).
Do you have any general tips for future couples planning their wedding day?
DON'T STRESS ABOUT THE FLOWERS! We must have gone back and forth 10 times with the florist on design changes (Amy is lucky she didn't have to do the same with us on the stationery lol). But then we asked ourselves, what are we doing? Why do we care so much? We realized it was going to be beautiful no matter what we did (though, we were lucky because Tribeca Rooftop is naturally beautiful). Also, don't stress over things you cannot control, like the weather. Just enjoy the time being engaged and worry less about the wedding planning - it'll all come together and be your beautiful.
Michael and David’s wedding at Tribeca Rooftop beautifully combined modern simplicity with personal touches that truly reflected who they are as a couple. Their focus on meaningful details, from the elegant stationery to the vibrant color palette, made their day both timeless and unforgettable. By trusting their vendors and embracing a "less is more" approach, they created a celebration that was as sophisticated as it was fun. Their story reminds us that weddings are not just about the décor but about the joy of coming together with loved ones to celebrate in a way that feels uniquely you.
