Unpopular Opinion: Pets and Weddings

Including pets in weddings has become a beloved trend, and I’m all for it! As someone who loves creating pet illustrations, I’ve worked on many weddings where pets take center stage in some delightful way. But here’s the thing: I think there are far more creative ways to include your furry friends than the usual signature drink sign.

Don’t get me wrong—those drink signs are adorable and still a great option! But if you’re looking for something that will truly stand out and bring even more meaning and personality to your big day, let’s explore some fresh ideas. Here are a few ways to elevate pet illustrations in your wedding details.

Embroidered Keepsake Pillow

A custom pillow with your pet’s illustration on display during the cocktail hour or at the reception. Not only is it a unique touch, but it can later become a beautiful keepsake in your home. I collaborate with a company that prints my illustrations on fabric AND a talented custom embroiderer who can add delicate accents, making this piece even more special.

Custom Handkerchiefs

For a more sentimental touch, imagine handkerchiefs with your pet’s illustration printed. Add a little blue floral embroidery and you have your “something blue”!

Personalized Cocktail Napkins or Coasters

Cocktail napkins are a great way to inject personality into your wedding, and adding a pet illustration can still be sophisticated. I love a line drawing of a pet embossed into a napkin or coaster. This is a subtle, “less is more” way to include your pet in your wedding day.

Pet-Inspired Wax Seals

Wax seals are a classic touch for any wedding suite, but using a custom seal featuring your pet’s illustration will add a unique personal flair. It’s a subtle way to incorporate your pet into the finer details of your invitation, reception menus, or thank you note envelopes. What a great keepsake to have for future correspondence too!

Framed Pet Images on the Bar Wall

A trend I've been loving lately is displaying cherished artwork, including family or pet portraits, on the wall behind the bar during the cocktail hour. It brings so much personality to the space and adds a cozy, library-like vibe, making the decor feel truly personal.

Pet-Inspired Dance Floor Decal

For a playful twist, why not have a pet illustration decal on the dance floor? It’s a fun and unexpected way to integrate your pet into the festivities—without them physically being there. I love a little image of a pup poking out of the corner of a dance floor!

Pets Deserve More than Just a Drink Sign

There are so many ways to include your beloved pets in your wedding, and it doesn’t have to stop at the typical drink sign. From meaningful keepsakes to charming details that surprise your guests, pets can be a delightful part of your wedding in ways that reflect your creativity and personality.

And hey, if you still want that drink sign, I’m happy to create it! But if you’re looking to try something new, let’s chat about how we can bring your pet into your big day in a fresh and unforgettable way.
