Kathryn + Dustin’s College of Physicians Wedding

Kathryn + Dustin

These two! I had such a great time working on the stationery and detail designs for Kathryn and Dustin's wedding. When I originally spoke with Kathryn, she let me know that she was looking for invitations that are elegant, dramatic, and fun. That combination spoke to my heart. I knew immediately that we were going to have a great time working together! The color palette for their College of Physicians wedding was burgundy and chambray blue with some warm toffee accents. While doing research on the venue, I fell in love with some of the interior architectural elements. The shape of the tray ceiling in their reception room inspired the design element that was used throughout the wedding stationery.

All photos are by Deana Clement Photography, with the exception of the save-the-date and invitation suite images.

Once we had a general design idea in place, we started with their save-the-dates. Kathryn and Dustin opted for a z-fold save the date that was simple, elegant and fun!

Once the save-the-dates hit the mail, we started work on the invitation suite. The design elements included an illustration of the College of Physicians, Kathryn and Dustin's decorative initials, and a custom map with illustrations of some of their favorite places on the envelope liner. The design had a lot of clean lines so we used a soft, hand-lettered style type and a silk ribbon to soften it up. Everything worked together so beautifully.

Before I share the couple's details of their wedding day, I have to note that the evening of their wedding was the final game of the World Series. Unfortunately, the Phillies lost that night. Honestly, I was so worried about how their guests would be able to get back to their hotels if the Phillies had won. Everyone in Philadelphia would have been out in the streets climbing the light posts. The Phillies loss was a win for the guests of this wedding!

I asked Kathryn to share some details about the wedding day. Check out her responses:
What did you want your wedding to feel like?

I wanted to plan a day that really incorporated both of our personalities. I wanted deep, fall colors, amazing food, and a ton of dancing! Being surrounded by family and friends was the most important part for my husband and me.

What was your inspiration for your wedding?

Our wedding look and feel was inspired by fall colors and florals. We wanted dark and dramatic floral arrangements, rich textures and lots of candles to create a super romantic ambiance.

What made you choose a custom stationery designer to create your wedding invitation vision?

We wanted our stationery to be extremely personal and detailed. The only way to do that in our mind was to work with Amy who was absolutely amazing and brought our personalities to life! I really felt like all of our different pieces told a story and exuded the elegance we were hoping for from the very beginning when the save-the-dates went out.

Take us back through your wedding day; share your wedding story.

It was a gorgeous November day. Waking up at the Logan Hotel after a wonderful rehearsal dinner at Dandelion and welcome drinks at Assembly, I was so excited to get ready with my mom and all of my closest friends. Dustin and I had our first look in the park right across from our hotel. I also shared a first-look moment with my dad and my younger brother. It was so special. After the first look, we took some gorgeous photos in the city with family and our wedding party and then made our way over to the College of Physicians for our outdoor ceremony. The ceremony was so personal and felt so intimate even though we were surrounded by over 200 guests. The ceremony ended and we went into the cocktail hour where more photos were taken. Finally, we made it upstairs into the event space at the College of Physicians where the most amazing night of singing and dancing with the Sensational Soul Cruisers took place. Our wedding weekend ended the next morning with a Sunday brunch for all of our guests that stayed at the Logan and it was the perfect way to close out the celebrations. I still can't believe how fast the day went by and I have been looking at our wedding photos ever since we got them back!

What was your first dance song?

"Let My Love Open The Door" Covered by The Millenium - for the last song of our wedding reception we played the OG Pete Townshend version :)

What was your favorite moment to see or create?

Seeing my invitations in person was such an exciting moment for me. I could not believe how the design and colors turned out. I also was absolutely blown away when I walked into our reception room and saw the gorgeous centerpieces and tablescapes.

How did you end the night? Did you have an after-party?

We ended the night with a grilled cheese bar at the venue and then we hopped over to one of the bars near the Logan. I lasted about 30 minutes before I finally left to go to bed! I was exhausted in the best possible way.

What surprised you most about planning your wedding?

Honestly, nothing really surprised me. As an event planner, I definitely knew what to expect!

What advice would you give your friends getting married?

Just have fun and don't get too stressed out about the planning. Everything will work out and if it doesn't, no one will even know if the napkins should have been blue instead of black or if the band plays the wrong song. Just enjoy your time planning and make the most of being with all of your favorite people in one room on your big day!

Kathryn and Dustin worked with an amazing team of wedding professionals. They really want to highlight some incredible people...

Every single one of my vendors was incredible. Brittany and Amy from Petals Lane were incredible every step of the way. Deana made me feel so comfortable taking photos of every possible moment. Our glam girls, Garro Glam, were just so talented and made sure that our hair and makeup would be looking fresh all day long. The Sensational Soul Cruisers kept everyone dancing with motown hits all night long! Catering by Design knocked it out of the park with the food, beverage and five star service. Lastly, our venue was the perfect place for our candlelit ceremony and dark, dramatic reception. We were so lucky to work with such incredibly talented people, yourself included, Amy!! (Thank you!!!)
